New BUBBLES - Time to sparkle with sparkling wine!

Dear wine lovers,

The most beautiful time of the year will arrive soon. We celebrate these special days with friends and family. During my wine study in South Africa I learned that you can drink champagne during every occasion. Often we use the term Champagne, but do we use it correct? Champagne refers to a restricted area, it's an AOC classified wine from France. But did you know, there are more lovely bubbles on this planet. Probably you will think, what kind of sparkling wine do I actually drink when the bubbles come from different countries like Spain, Italy, South Africa etcetera!? Hereby the correct wine terms:

- Cava comes from Spain
- Prosseco, Spumante and Frizante are coming from Italy
- Crémant comes from different regions in France
- Sekt comes from Germany
- Methode Cap Classique comes from South Africa
- Sparkling wines from Australia, New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Argentina are just called Champagne or the name of the vinification method is mentioned on the label.

Champagne is a highly classified and an important export product for France, but as you can see above and below on the picture there is so much more. Crémant is the second important sparkling wine and is often dry. These sparkling wines are made outside the Champagne region. The French Classification system introduced in 1985 the term Crémant for regions outside Champagne. The word Champagne outside the region Champagne in France is forbidden and therefore Crémant became for the other regions in France the new name for sparkling wine. As you can see Crémant is bottled in almost every wine region from North to South, thus from a cold to a warm climate. The difference in wine are the grape varieties, location and climate.

As discussed earlier it is difficult to assess the wines from these regions, but I really like to make you aware of the choices you have. For example, we visited the region Bourgogne last month. I really love the Crémant de Bourgogne, the reason is that the grape variaties are common with the Champagne. Furthermore, the climate of both regions are similar. In Champagne you will find the most exclusive brands of Champagne of the world, however, if you want to enjoy a lovely glass with bubbles - try something new! I love to advise you a Crémant when you like to celebrate. Another advantage is that you will pay less.

Santé and enjoy the December month,
Annalia
